FAQs Regarding Certificates of Deposit

How Does a Certificate of Deposit Work?

A Certificate of Deposit is a commitment a customer makes to deposit a fixed sum of money at Horizon Bank for a fixed period of time.  In exchange, the bank will pay interest on the deposit, typically at regular intervals.  When the certificate of deposit is redeemed at maturity, the customer will receive the money originally invested and any accrued interest.  If the certificate of deposit is cashed-in before the maturity date, there may be an early withdrawal penalty that will vary based upon the term.  Contact your local banker for details regarding this and the terms available.

Is my Certificate of Deposit money safe at Horizon Bank?

Yes, Horizon Bank is an FDIC-insured bank.

Is there a resource available to tell me more about Certificates of Deposit?

The FDIC is an excellent resource for more information and tips for saving.  Visit their site at www.fdic.gov/deposit/deposits/certificate
